Honda CX500 Cafe Racer – Sacha Lakic

Published By

The Honda CX500, during its heyday, was a step forward in motorcycle engineering thanks to it’s water-cooled shaft drive engine outfitted with 4 pushrod-operated valves per cylinder. Despite this, the CX500 was widely considered to be an awkward mix of standard, sport, and cruiser design features. Fast forward over 30 years, and its a highly sought after blank canvas for custom bike builders to create their masterpiece on.

Case in point is the Honda CX500 Cafe Racer Project by designer Sacha Lakic. Fueled by a few cold beers and his passion for the CX500’s unique 80° bi-cylinder engine, he turned an old 1982 model CX500 found in the corner of his friend’s bike shop, into the sharp-looking minimalist cafe racer it is today.

Notable features include a complete engine rebuild along with a reinforced swingarm, an Ölhins shock absorber from a Ducati 851, Marzocchi front forks, Nissin brakes with a Rizoma fluid tank, custom rear sets from a CBR 1000, a custom front fender and seat, a Y-shaped exhaust manifold with a custom 2-into-1 exhaust system, and a custom speedometer, tachometer, and headlight up front.

A matte black paint scheme with contrasting red and aluminum accents rounds out the design. Learn the complete details about the build at Sacha Lakic after you watch the teaser trailer.
