Peak Design Everyday Messenger

When hitting the road, there are all kinds of other things to worry about besides what bag you’re carrying. Or at least, that should be the case. However, if you find yourself stuck with a less-than-durable bag — maybe one prone to slipping or losing your everyday carry — then it becomes a key cause for concern. If that’s still an issue for you, consider it solved with the Peak Design Everyday Messenger Bag . It certainly has quite a bit going for it, first and foremost perhaps being the number of accolades it’s received. Everyone from Men’s Journal to National Geographic has lauded its quality, durability and versatility. And if you appreciate good design, style and functionality, you’d do well to look into what it offers. Luckily, I got the chance to find out firsthand during a weekend trip to Florida.

Unlike other messenger bags, it really does have the option to be whatever you might need — anything from a camera bag to a regular messenger — thanks to its Flex-Fold dividers (inspired by origami to keep all your gear organized). Laptop and tablet sleeves, plus quick-access zipper and pocket areas, ensure it’s not hard at all to get to your gear. Throughout my trip,I found it quite easy to reach into nearly any area of the bag while the unique tubular webbing strap was still on my shoulders. It’s certainly sturdy too, thanks to the multi-panel exterior design and weatherproof shell.

And that same sturdy strap can be adjusted to convert the bag to a variety of positions, making it very adaptable no matter the situation. This feature definitely proved handy as I navigated a crowded airport. Even better for travel? It’s carry-on approved, and the remarkable patent-pending Maglatch closure system features a magnetic clasp and four ladder lock point options for maximum security. The brand says the system is “quiet and secure,” able to be used with one hand. As I adjusted my bag and looked to reach into the main zipper compartment several times, I found this to be the case. As an added bonus (among several), the color-coded stitching on the bag’s exterior makes it easy to organize your gear and workflow. On top of it all, the two color options — Charcoal or Heritage Tan — are versatile and understated enough to make this an excellent everyday bag. It’s all in a name, right? – $250
