1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada

Once upon a time, Giotto Bizzarrini was an executive for Ferrari and a freelance automotive designer. He also dabbled a bit with Lamborghini, helping them design their V12 engine. The 1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada is the result of his partnership with Iso regarding the Grifo.

Iso chairman, Renzo Rivolta, granted Giotto permission to produce a high-performance version of the Grifo under Bizzarrini’s own name. This ‘68 GT Strada is one of them. In fact, it is one of only 86 GT Strada examples featuring aluminum bodywork.

In the early days of GT Strada production, Bizzarrini used a 5.4L small-block Chevy V8 engine to power the sexy sports car. Eventually he made the decision to switch to a big-block 7.0L V8 engine. With 365 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, the Strada can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in less than seven seconds.

If you keep going, you’ll reach a top speed of 174 mph. That is a very impressive top speed for its era. Of course, getting your hands on a Bizzarrini GT Strada is never easy because this is a rare and exotic vintage sports car.

This particular 1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada is available for sale through the reputable RM Sotheby’s. Purchase of the vehicle includes access to this Strada’s complete ownership history and maintenance records. It is in pristine condition thanks to an extensive restoration performed by a former Bizzarrini employee.

You pull up to any occasion in a Bizzarrini Strada and you will be met with gawkers wondering what kind of car you are driving. Many people will mention they think it might be a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. You can just smile while letting them attempt to read the Bizzarrini marque on the rear of the Strada as you give them an earful of that V8 roar.
