Bluntly described as the “most extreme” version of their popular SLS model, Mercedes-Benz has officially announced the addition of the 2014 SLS AMG Black Series to their line-up, as men everywhere celebrate. Inspired by the cool design and brilliant engineering of the SLS AMG GT3 race car, this fifth installment of the Black Series is powered by the mean AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine that produces 622 horsepower (39 more horses than the SLS AMG), a top speed of 196 MPH, and a 0-60 time of a mere 3.5 seconds. The faster times and extra power are in part due to its new AMG lightweight performance strategy which utilizes lightweight carbon fiber plastic in the design. Additional differences from its SLS AMG counterpart are a coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension, AMG high-performance ceramic two-piece brake system and weight-optimized, forged AMG light-alloy wheels with new sport tires available in a matte black option, wide fenders, and a prominant rear diffuser. Expect a huge price tag for this awesome new version of the SLS. I doubt we could even afford one of the wheels.
