As one of the most iconic vehicles ever built in America, the Corvette is in a class of its own. Ever since the very first ‘Vette was built in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette has maintained its lightweight and nimble reputation. The Corvette has also established an identity built around excellent performance and its ability to grip the road with ease.
Chevrolet continues the same great bloodlines of its C1-C7 predecessors while setting the stage for the next generation of the Chevy Corvette: the C8. The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible has everything any ‘Vette enthusiast could ever ask for and more. Perhaps the most interesting and exciting change of this generation is the introduction of the very first mid-engine Corvette to ever be made.
As has been the case with almost every generation before it, Chevy’s latest Corvette has improved upon the performance over previous models once again.
Stepping into the territory of sports car supercars, the 2020 Corvette C8 Convertible is powered by a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated LT2 V8 featuring 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed dual clutch automatic transmission provides lightning quick shift times. However, the 2020 Chevy Stingray will still offer the option of overriding the electronics with paddle shifters for more control.
With no engine in the front anymore, Chevy has put the space to good use with a front cargo area large enough to carry an airline-sized overhead bag. The 2020 Stingray Convertible also introduces the first retractable hardtop featured on a Corvette, so you won’t even have to leave your seat to feel the breeze.
According to Chevy, only a single part has been carried over from previous generations of the Corvette. The newest Corvette has definitely undergone many changes, yet it still remains the same jaw-dropping American icon it has always been.
