2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat

The terms SRT and Hellcat are scary enough to anybody lined up against one, but seeing those words on a Durango takes on a whole new level of fear. Introducing the most powerful SUV ever, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is letting a larger and more ferocious cat out of the bag with this one.

Why not? Just because some gearheads grow up and have families doesn’t mean they lose their passion for American Muscle. This one is for adults who really love toys.

With 710 horsepower and three rows of available seating, the whole family can enjoy the thrill of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. The 645 lb-ft of torque is merely icing on the proverbial cake. Do car seats provide ample room for regulation sized helmets? Worry about that later, for now it’s time to talk about supercharging HEMI V8s.

Powering the Dodge is the supercharged 6.2L HEMI Hellcat V8 engine shifting through a convenient TorqueFlight 8HP95 automatic transmission. With a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) certified quarter mile time of 11.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph, the Durango Hellcat breathes fire.

To match its predatory capability, Dodge updated the exterior with more aggressive styling. This includes a forward-leaning design profile capturing Charger Widebody elements, LED lighting, and a rear spoiler. Exclusive rims are an SRT trademark, so expect the wheel options to feature some serious claws.

There are also standard SRT engineering improvements such as Brembo brakes as well as suspension and handling upgrades. Some of the race-inspired technology and suspension upgrades deliver different driving dynamics according to your needs.

For example, a driving mode selector provides ride comfort in Auto mode or improved handling in Track mode. There is also more suspension responsiveness with increased rebound control, this is helpful when driving a medium to large bodied vehicle such as an SUV.

Drivers will also experience better grip when entering and exiting corners thanks to a 2.5% reduction in understeer. Overall, SRT engineering improves the stability, performance and handling of the Hellcat over standard Durango models.

Driver-assist technology such as Launch Control can toggle on or off from the cockpit via switch. This will help you get some grip while trying to let 710 horses out of the gate simultaneously. The aforementioned Brembo brakes require 116 feet to come to a full stop from 60 miles per hour. Not bad for a big cat.

Although Dodge could have made this exclusively about performance, they did not forget about comfort or convenience. A driver-centric cockpit and a 10.1-inch UConnect 5 Touchscreen System enhance the experience. Plenty of available features and equipment options round out the interior with a luxurious touch.

At the end of the day, perhaps Dodge says it best: “No SUV in the world can tow more or carry more with a faster quarter-mile time than the Durango SRT Hellcat.” The Durango adds a formidable sibling alongside the Challenger and Charger models sharing the Hellcat badge. Don’t mess with these cats.

Dealer orders open during the autumn of 2020 with deliveries expected early in 2021. The Durango SRT Hellcat is exclusive to the 2021 model year, so get one before they fly off the lot in 3.5 seconds or less.
