Fans of BMW’s M3 or M4 are in for a shock. An electric shock. One of the most accomplished names in motorsports is charging things up with the BMW I4 M50. Anything with an M on it offers an exciting drive full of handling finesse, impressive acceleration, and comfortable luxury. Welcome to the club, M50.
With 536 horsepower, the I4 M50 can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds. As for torque, the M50 puts 386 pound-feet to the wheels. They achieve this performance using a motor on each axle, giving the M50 standard all-wheel drive. Torque is virtually instantaneous in electric vehicles using this design.
So, right off the lot, you have incredible traction with foolproof launching ability capable of reaching 60 mph in under 4 seconds. The M50 is going to fit into the family nicely. It can also handle just like you expect an M to take corners.
The new BMW EV sedan uses a floor-mounted battery pack giving the M50 a very low center of gravity. You even have access to BMW’s adaptive M suspension allowing you to adjust how stiff the system is while driving.
Of course, the I4 M50 is only available as a sedan. If you want a coupe, this particular BMW EV may not be the right fit. Knowing BMW, they are working on a coupe variant as well. You can achieve a full charge in 8 hours or less with the I4 M50 while having enough juice to have a 240-mile range.
With a top speed of 140 mph, the BMW I4 M50 is not going to stay on shelves long. It may take a while for some M enthusiasts to warm up to an EV but those who give the M50 a chance are in for a treat. Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first to own an M EV from BMW in 2022.
