This is a bittersweet time for fans and enthusiasts of the current-generation Ford GT. 2022 marks the end of the line for this version of America’s treasured supercar. The 2022 Ford GT LM Final Special Edition puts the final stamp on special editions of this generation of the iconic supercar.
Ford won Le Mans with their historic first, second, and third place finish in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the GT40. Then, in 2016, Ford won Le Mans again using this generation of the GT. To this day, Ford is the only American manufacturer to ever win the legendary Le Mans endurance race.
To pay homage to those Le Mans-winning cars, Ford is making red and blue accents as available options for the Final Special Edition GT. You can even opt for red or blue exterior carbon fiber accents with a matching driver’s seat. There is even a bespoke alloy instrument panel badge made from the crankshaft of the third-place Ford GT from the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Ford uses 3D printing technology in a few places on the GT LM Final Special Edition. One of the most intriguing 3D-printed components is the titanium-printed, dual exhaust system that features a cyclonic design inside the tips. This gives the exhaust tone additional depth and character, very unique to the Final Special Edition compared to a standard GT model.
The mid-mounted, 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine produces 660 horsepower for your driving pleasure. It complements those ponies with 550 pound-feet of torque. All this power gets sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed, dual clutch automatic transaxle but you do have access to paddle shifters if you want more of a hands-on experience.
Of course, there is some fine print to consider. Ford is only making a total of 20 Final Special Edition GT models. Getting your hands on one will be met with competition. You don’t need to be a fan of racing to understand you need to act fast if this supercar is in your future plans.
