Atari VCS

You’re thinking: Atari still exists? It does. While they were once responsible for keeping 12 year old boys in the 80s pasty and planted in front of the TV playing endless rounds of Asteroids, Millipede and Missile Command, after a series of mergers, acquisitions, and a bankruptcy, Atari is no longer the behemoth of the joystick-wielding world that it once was. Yet it appears the gaming company has announced something new.

While the details aren’t extensive, what we do know is: the VCS is a connected device that’ll let you play games (old and new) and get a “PC experience” on your TV. It’ll have an Open Linux OS and let you stream video, audio and entertainment apps. The pre-order date is TBA very soon.

But also? It’ll look like the Atari 2600 from 1977. Did Atari intentionally wait four decades to strike in this era of everything-old-is-cool-again? Possibly. But all we want to know is who’s up for a round of Pong? Learn more here.
