Audi RS Q e-tron E2

The new era of Audi launched with luxurious comfort, exhilarating performance, and sophisticated styling without sacrificing the racing heritage the German automaker brings to the table. Yet, that doesn’t mean Audi is willing to stray from their off-road and rally racing history anytime soon. Introducing the Audi RS Q e-tron E2, the promising second version of the original four-stage 2022 Dakar Rally winner.

Of course, the pedigree of the original Audi RS Q e-tron rally racer also includes winning the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. At the heart of the E2 or second edition of the RS Q e-tron’s performance is an electric drivetrain featuring an energy converter system based on the turbo fuel stratified injection engine and generator technology, or TFSI.

On top of the electric drivetrain, there is also an efficient 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI engine which acts as an energy generator to charge the high-voltage battery while you drive the RS Q e-tron E2. Meanwhile, since the actual drivetrain of the RS E2 is electric, there are three different electric motor-generator units, or an MGU, throughout the vehicle.

The MGU design comes from the Audi Formula E car. This is the heart and soul of the future of Audi motorsports. Each axle of the RS E2 has its own MGU while the third MGU acts as an additional energy converter to charge the battery while driving.

Capable of going from zero to 62 miles per hour in less than 4.5 seconds on a loose surface, it is no wonder why the new Audi Q e-tron E2 is expected to be so successful in rally racing. It can even reach a top speed of 105 mph, which is, of course, restricted by rally regulations.

This advanced system combines to create 392 horsepower and as you would expect, this Audi does feature all-wheel-drive. That only makes off-road dominance easier than ever in a lightweight and aerodynamic machine such as the Audi RS Q e-tron E2.

By all appearances, Audi is drawing a line in the sand while being poised for more success at the 2023 Dakar Rally. This off-road racer is special. It is up to the competition to make the next move at this point. Stay tuned to the 2023 Dakar Rally to see how Audi does with the newest evolution of their rally racing engineering.
