BANZAI Series #01 Skateboard

Published By

Back in the mid 1970s, Banzai Skate Co. released a number of different boards, including the standard wood and fiberglass, but also an aluminum deck. Those boards looked like nothing else out there and endured just about any abuse they were put through — attributes that made them instantly collectible. When two guys amassed every aluminum Banzai board they could get their hands on, the next logical step was to manufacture a new one.

Now you can buy a brand new Banzai Series #01 anodized aluminum skateboard without scouring the depths of ebay. Instead you get a high-end collector’s box complete with brushed aluminum deck, grippy (85a softness) 59mm wheels, stainless steel mounting parts, and lightweight trucks. Plus there’s a signed, limited edition art print by one of five artists (which print you get depends on which color board you pick).

The brushed aluminum deck is designed to be grippy enough without tape, but should you decide you want a little more stick beneath your feet, grip tape is provided. Since the last 43 years has seen a bit of an improvement in manufacturing technology, the new Banzai offers a smoother ride and better handling than its predecessor. It’s up to you whether you want to ride it or put it behind glass and admire it, but judging by the bomb-proof materials, even if you took it to the skatepark daily, it’ll probably still be around 43 years from now.

Each color is limited to 100 boards each, so if you’re thinking of bringing some enduring nostalgia to your life, maybe don’t wait too long to do so.
