They used to put kola nut in colas. Root beer was made with the root of the sassafras tree. And ginger root was brewed to make ginger ale. Now the side of a given soda can just says “flavors.” Artificial or natural, doesn’t really matter. The point is, the namesake ingredient is often no longer an ingredient. Which is why craft sodas are getting so good. Here’s a ginger beer that not only lists actual ginger among the ingredients, it puts the root center stage.
