In the early days of Bugatti’s history, the French company designed a racing airplane, even though it never flew. To say Ettore Bugatti had an interest in aviation is an understatement.
The Bugatti Les Légendes du Ciel uses this inspiration to honor legendary French pilots in the form of a luxurious supercar. Bugatti’s cars provide the kind of agility and speed daredevil pilots prefer whenever traveling by road.
Every meticulous detail boasts superior craftsmanship using premium quality materials. Many tributes to aviation are all around the vehicle, inside and out. The car itself is based on Bugatti’s CHIRON Sport model, but with its own twist.
For example, the matte grey exterior finish is similar to the color of early 20th century planes. There is even a double front wing reminiscent of an old biplane design. The “Les Légendes du Ciel” lettering is accompanied by a logo with a propeller on both front fenders.
In the cockpit, the aeronautical homage continues with plenty of details and accents. The brown Gaucho leather is nearly identical to an old Nieuport 17 cockpit. You can even get one with a special Sky View glass roof so you never feel too far away from your comfort zone.
Of course, it would not be a Bugatti if it did not produce serious power from a large displacement engine. The Les Légendes du Ciel features an 8.0L W16 engine. That is 16-cylinders for those keeping count.
Measuring this kind of power is quite the task. Handling it is even tougher. If you have the beans to fly an airplane, then 1,500 PS (1,479 horsepower) and 1,600 newton metres of torque should not scare you away. Neither should the top speed of 260 miles per hour. That is not a typo.
As is often the case, production of this special edition supercar is limited to only 20 models. Of course, Bugatti labels the Les Légendes du Ciel as a hyper sports car, but whatever you want to call it, it offers a first class experience.
