The time has finally arrived to go Back to the Future with DeLorean. After years of rumors and anticipation, the all-new DeLorean Alpha5 EV is here. You probably are noticing right away that it really does not share a lot in common with the original DMC-12 from the ‘80s. However, DeLorean never intended to make the Alpha5 a reimagined DMC-12.
It does, however, share a few things in common with the old school DeLorean. For starters, the Alpha5 EV does feature gull-wing doors. Delorean even lists the 0 to 88 miles per hour time for the Alpha5 should you choose to invent a flux capacitor for your time machine. In case you are wondering, the Alpha5 can reach 88 mph in only 4.35 seconds, quite a bit faster than the old DMC-12.
Of course, the future of mobility is constantly evolving and such is the case with the DeLorean Motor Company. The Alpha5 is indeed a full electric vehicle. DeLorean estimates a range of approximately 300 miles on a full charge. The battery-powered DeLorean Alpha5 should be able to reach 60 mph in 2.99 seconds and have a limited top speed of 155 mph.
Even though the Alpha5 has only two doors like the original DeLorean, it seats more than two people. With seating for four, the Alpha5 promises more passengers can come with you on your time travel adventures.
As for styling, the DeLorean features sleek body lines with a design that clearly moves the iconic brand into the 21st century. One of the most appealing features are the rear taillights with the word DeLorean being a part of the brake light experience. It looks cool as hell.
More details on the actual release date will be announced by DeLorean in the near future. For now, if you want to be one of the first people behind the wheel of the DeLorean Alpha5 EV, sign up for updates and make a reservation when the time comes. Until then, the new prototype will be on display on August 18th at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California.
