Hookie Tasmanian Devil HD Sportster

No two bike shops are the same. That somehow goes double for Hookie Co. Based in Dresden, Germany the custom bike garage also promotes itself as a community hub around which builders, motorcycle enthusiasts, and those who are just moto-curious are encouraged to hang out, drink coffee, and use the free wi-fi. Everything they build, they do by hand, with intense attention to each detail. Also they sell cans of tea that look like old motor oil tins.

Checking out their Tasmanian Devil build will give you a good sense of the company’s aesthetic tendencies — simple, pared back design and flat track touches. Based on a 1991 HD Sportster 883, the Tasmanian Devil chops the fuel tank and fender struts, adds a number plate up front along with a flat track bar, and puts a new leather seat on an aluminum seat pan with a reduced subframe.

The engine is mostly stock with a new XR rocker cover from EMD. The custom exhaust is finished a sleek vintage bronze and employs a Supertrapp 2-to-1 muffler. The inch-and-a-half lowered front suspension and dirt track tires from Goldentyre give the bike a muscular track-ready look. And right up front, splashed across the tank is a bold red reminder of what you’re looking at: A Hookie Co special. – Learn More
