Indian Scout Bobber by Alfredo Juarez

Indian Motorcycles and Hot Bike magazine wanted to see what would happen if they gave non-professional custom bike makers the chance to do whatever they wanted to a new Indian Scout Bobber. The Wrench was their nationwide contest that asked amatuer builders to submit designs. Three finalists were chosen and given a new Scout plus a ten grand build budget. Their finished bikes were unveiled at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August.

Fans voted and a couple weeks later the winner was announced as the bronze and aqua bobber built by Alfredo “Fred” Juarez. He got to take home a $10,000 cash prize (and the bike, after it completes a circuit of motorcycle shows and events). His engineering background definitely came into play for his build. He works for NASA as a lead flammability test engineer, as he says, “anything that goes up in space, I burn it for a living.”

In his garage, Fred fashioned girder style front forks, a blink-and-you-miss-it metal seat pan, and bits of coppered faring at the headlamp and intriguingly, around the drive chain. The end bike is a raw, lean, and aggressive-looking bike with just the right amount of artistry to rightfully earn him the top honor. – Learn More
