IWC Portofino Chronograph 39

Published By

Leave it to IWC to serve up a downright dressy chronograph with the Portofino 39. Still, its immaculately clean lines, clever details, and lustrous polishing don’t compromise the sporty aesthetics we chrono fans love and expect. The racetrack subdials are still there, as are the t-shaped pushers—even the leather strap has exposed twine-like stitching, albeit tonal with the luxurious and bend-respecting texturing. Canny specifics include the elegant leaf hands, which are even used in the subdials, and the applications above the top subdial and below the bottom one.

On the function side, the Portofino 39 runs on an in-house automatic, adorned with 27 violet jewels. The layers of the movement are accented with gold-toned cogs, an IWC-embossed rotor, and a mesmerizing Côtes de Genève perlage (a decorative circular brushing). All of this can be admired through the exhibition caseback.
