Despite its relatively understated status in the IWC range, the Portofino Perpetual Calendar is a horological wonder if there ever was one. Known for how the gadgety three-subdial face is tempered by the downright romantic moonphase, this well-balanced timepiece now comes in a reasonable, less look-at-me 40-millimeter case size.
With its feuille hands and singular Roman 12 marker, there’s no denying how decorative the Portofino line is. Still, this watch is a serious piece of gear too. The multi-complication dial confirms this, as do the Kurt Klaus-designed calendar module and the high-frequency 82650 Calibre. Naturally, this 46-jewel movement is adorned with systematic Côtes de Genève texturing because everything on a Portofino needs to be as pretty to look at as it is functional.
