Jeep is one of America’s most beloved brands and they continue to push the 4×4 sector into the future through innovative engineering. With the Jeep CJ Surge Concept, the future looks very bright for zero-emission automotive technology.

Going back to the drawing board, the engineers at Jeep wanted to gain a better understanding of how battery-electric vehicle propulsion systems work. They wanted to develop an EV system that is compatible with classic Jeep models. The CJ Surge Concept is the result of all their hard work.

Make no mistake about it, the CJ Surge is a true 4×4 with power going to all four wheels. A 400-volt, 200-kW electric drive module sits under the hood, mounted to the frame. There are a total of 24 lithium-ion battery modules throughout the design to supply the juice.

There is a two-speed transfer case with selectable gearing to help get the power to all four wheels. The CJ Surge sits on a two-inch lift kit and rides on 35-inch all-terrain tires from BFGoodrich. Rock crawling is easy in the CJ Surge thanks to Dana 44 Crate axles in both the front and rear designed by JPP or Jeep Performance Parts.

JPP also made the Wrangler JK Rubicon Bumper Kit and the Rubicon Warn winch. There are a lot of JPP parts on the CJ Surge including skid plates and rock rails. Other highlights include a custom-built roll cage and bikini top.

The Copper Canyon exterior finish features gloss black and Surf Blue Surge graphics to give it the finishing touch. Oversized fender flares are a nice addition to this concept Jeep.

Although you cannot buy the Jeep CJ Surge Concept, you can be sure that Jeep will make a vehicle similar to this available in the near future. There are going to be a lot of Jeep enthusiasts looking to get their hands on a 4×4 EV like the CJ Surge. Stay tuned to Jeep for more details.
