Jupe Portable Shelters

Published By

Hitting somewhere between a giant tent and a prefab structure, the Jupe Portable Shelter is meant to get city dwellers out away from the things of man — but that doesn’t mean you’ll need to miss out on your latest podcast obsession. Optionally equipped with off-grid solar power capabilities, built-in dimmable LED lights, and a private wi-fi network, you’ll stay as connected as you want to be.

One driving force behind the development of the shelters was to provide extra lodging options for short term rental hosts (in fact, one of the people behind Jupe came from Airbnb). As social distancing and nearby escapes rocket in popularity, these flat-packed shelters are coming out at a pretty opportune time. Of course, anyone with some land can set one of these up, in a process that only takes a few hours.

Built from aluminum supports and fire-resistant canvas, each Jupe has a little over a hundred square feet of floor space and eleven foot ceilings. The entrance can be thrown open into a huge window that takes in the view. Two side windows let in air and more of that top-quality nature peeping.

The floor is made from a chassis covered in Baltic birch wood floor tiles that lift up to reveal storage cubbies — enough to hold about ten suitcases in their hidden depths. As for amenities, each Jupe comes with either one queen or two twin Nectar mattresses, along with a designer desk, chair, and ottoman.

Pre-orders are open now and the refundable $99 deposit goes towards the starting price of $17,500. With units shipping in March of 2021, you’ll have plenty of time to pick out the perfect spot to place your new off-grid habitat.
