Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale

Every bartender fears one agency in his or her respective state. Be it the Liquor Control Commission, the Alcohol and Gaming department, or the Alcoholic Beverage Control, they are the boogeymen that can shut down the good times for any misstep.

Fourteen years ago this March, Lagunitas got busted. The California ABC ran an undercover sting and, based on what they saw (too much fun, too much beer, weed), they deemed the brewpub a “disorderly house” slapping the establishment with a suspension.

The brewery’s commemorative, limited release beer, the Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale is fittingly very bitter and packs an unrepentant 9.6% ABV. It’s malty and rich, with lots of hops and we’re calling it the perfect thing to drink when you’re lamenting ending up on the losing side of a smackdown — or celebrating your inevitable comeback. – Learn More
