Maria Motorcycles XSR700 Orbiter

Yamaha Portugal asked Maria Riding Company — a Lisbon-based custom bike and surfboard company — to customize an XSR700. It’s part of their Yard-Built Program where Yamaha asks pro-customizers to transform their bikes, both to inspire bike owners and Yamaha itself.

This Yard-Built is The Orbiter, an off-roader that looks equal parts chop shop and moon rover. It’s a true scrambler-style bike in form and function, with all of the genre’s DIY-dirt-bike hallmarks: raised suspension, knobby tires, high-clearance exhaust and striped-down build.

Maria Motorcycles fabricated a new aluminum tank, inverted the forks, and replaced the ABS system with radial brakes, sitting it all atop 19 inch Kineo wire-spoked wheels and Michelin’s Anakee Wild tires. If it looks like a bike you could have some fun on, that’s because it is. Head to Portugal and give it a spin. Or wait for the inspiration to seep into Yamaha’s next offering.
