Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer

Most Swiss hard-hitters of the watch world are known for classic, function-forward designs. Sure, Omega is the brand that managed to successfully enter an almost psychedelic-looking wave dial design into the classics club. Still, the X-33 Marstimer variant of the Speedmaster uses a tried-and-true template and takes it, almost literally, to Mars. It’s a tactile, matte, and borderline G-Shock-esque design. Of course, all of the wild visual changes are linked to true function, which contributes to its professional look. For starters, it’s made of Grade 2 titanium and runs on a thermo-compensated quartz, patented by the European Space Agency.

The Marstimer X-33 is inspired by the red planet, which is why the beautiful floating outerdial frames a display that tells you the time on Mars and Earth, as well as a solar compass that lets you know where north on either planet is. This fascinating timepiece has an exquisite anodized aluminium bezel in hematite, the real, organic color of Mars, which is also seen as an accent on the top push-button and as a gradient on the second hand’s tip.
