For a dozen years now, the Stuff You Should Know podcast has covered everything and anything. Barbies, pinball, the Simpsons, psychopaths, Easter Island, fallout shelters, plastic pink flamingos, and about 1,600 more topics. Engrossing and deeply-researched, the episodes are downloaded by millions of people every month. They’re a joy to listen to (and make writers and editors wish they did something that allowed them to listen to talking while working). At the beginning of an episode, you know whatever you know about a subject, then by the end, you know a whole lot more.
Diving into SYSK podcasts can feel a little overwhelming (like we said, there are 1,600 of them, but really just pick one at random and push play) so now there’s a book written by the two hosts, Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant that dives into a range of topics in a completely digestible 300 pages that are accompanied by charts, illustrations, footnotes, and other visual aids. For a fan of the podcast or anyone interested in knowing interesting things about interesting subjects, Stuff You Should Know: An Incomplete Compendium of Mostly Interesting Things is a excellent bet for your bookcase.
