The McLaren 765LT Spider

It is an exciting time to be a gearhead. The industry is constantly pushing itself to reach new heights, almost like a space-race for high-performance vehicles. The McLaren 765LT Spider is the ultimate example. This is McLaren’s fastest convertible supercar yet.

Of course, some of the best things in life are usually exclusive. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why exclusivity feels so special. In case you are wondering how many McLaren will make, the answer is 765. Very clever, at least it will be easy to remember.

You see, McLaren also made a coupe version of the 765LT. They made 765 of those as well. The LT portion of the name stands for longtail, which is the title reserved for McLaren’s lightest and highest-performing cars with superior aerodynamic tuning.

Make no mistake about it, the 765LT Spider is fast, even quicker to 60 miles per hour than it takes to lower the retractable hard top roof (RHT) for open-air driving. Of course, you do not want to open or close the roof at speeds above 31 mph unless you want to throw caution to the wind.

The 765LT can fly from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. It can reach 124 mph from a dead stop in only 7.2 seconds. Meanwhile, it takes 11 seconds to lower the one-piece carbon fiber RHT for the quintessential McLaren convertible experience.

To make these kinds of drool-inducing numbers possible, McLaren fits the 765LT Spider with a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine. Then they mix in a lot of ultra-lightweight materials with precision engineering. The end result is a staggering 590 brake-horsepower per ton of dry weight.

Considering the curb weight of 3,060 pounds, that translates to the 765LT featuring 755 bhp with 590 pound-feet of torque. That’s a lot of power but McLaren tosses a Formula 1-grade transmission into the 765LT to help you handle it.

Other weight reduction measures include a titanium exhaust system and thinner glass all around the 765LT Spider. There is an active rear spoiler that even changes positioning automatically depending if you have the roof up or down.

Sitting inside the 765LT Spider feels like you are speeding even when you are not moving. A motorsports-inspired theme tailors the experience while carbon fiber racing seats keep your butt planted through the tightest corners.

If you want air conditioning or a stereo system, they are available but as optional equipment in the 765LT for no additional charge. How generous for a supercar with a $382,500 price tag. For those who prefer the sweet gurgling backfire from the twin-turbo V8 as music, you’re all set with the factory setup.

Best of all, The McLaren 765LT Spider is available to order now. The only fine print is there is a lot of demand for the 765LT Spider. McLaren’s coupe version of the 765 is still fresh on the roads and now everybody wants the upcoming convertible version. Happy Spider hunting, ye have been warned.
