The New Porsche 718 Spyder

Alongside the new 718 Cayman, Porsche has just announced the 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, now available to order. While essentially the same car under the exterior as the Cayman, the Spyder offers its mid-engine sports car performance in a sleek convertible package. The lightweight top can handle everyday driving conditions as well as capably bearing the car’s top speed of 187 miles per hour.

The new engine, based on the company’s 911 Carrera is a flat six-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine capable of 414 horsepower and 309 foot-pounds of torque — the same as the Cayman, though the Spyder comes in just one mile per hour slower than the Cayman’s impressive top speed.

Unique to the 718 Spyder is the spoiler that automatically deploys when you reach 75 miles per hour. And for an added bonus, Porsche has equipped their newest Spyder with in-house adapted ultra-high-performance tires. And to make sure those tires can stop all that speed, the Spyder will come standard with big monobloc aluminum fixed-calliper brakes, with an upgrade to ceramic composite brakes as an option.
