Human beings first left the surface of the earth in 1903. When the Wright Flyer left the sand and took to the air in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, it was a momentous occasion in many ways. In only a handful of generations since then, it’s shocking how far air travel has come. We take it for granted today, and every last corner of the globe is accessible thanks to the miracle of flight.
But we aren’t done. Not even close. The innovations are coming faster than ever, and the Venus Stargazer M4 is a testament to that fact. On track to arrive in the early 2030s, this reusable aircraft promises to once again alter the skies forever.
The stats are mind-boggling. First, the cruising speed – Mach 4. That’s four times the speed of sound, or over 3,000 miles per hour. As for top speed, that’s expected to reach Mach 9. Traveling up to 5,000 miles in a single flight while producing half the emissions of other planes, the Stargazer is unlikely anything that has ever been created.
Orville and Wilbur could have never imagined where we would be today, and they certainly wouldn’t have pictured what is coming in the near future. It’s an amazing time to be alive, whether with two feet on the ground or soaring at hypersonic speeds more than 100,000 feet up.
