Have you heard the Audi R8’s 5.2L V10 engine yet? It is like a V8 on steroids, it sounds nasty. In a very good way. Now is your chance to catch more than an earful with the 2021 Audi R8 Spyder. You’ll catch the breeze with two scoops of inspirational exhaust notes on the side.
If that sounds like the perfect day to you, you are in the right place. Audi is famous for their Quattro (all-wheel drive) system, but for the first time it is optional on the R8 for 2021. You can now rip around in a rear-wheel drive (RWD) Audi R8 Spyder if you dare. It will be fun.
Of course, the Quattro option is still available. It is really a matter of preference and perhaps potential driving conditions. The choice is now up to you.
If you do not already know, the term Spyder refers to a convertible. Therefore, the R8 Spyder offers an open air driving experience when you put the top down. It features an electrohydraulic system to raise or lower the roof in 20 seconds, at speeds of up to 31 miles per hour.
Audi uses lightweight materials for the roof and it can open or close via a soft-top button in the center console. When it is open, the soft top stores itself into a flat storage compartment over the V10 engine. Best of all, when the top is up, drivers have the option of closing the rear window or leaving it open to hear the sweet sounds of the naturally aspirated engine.
Ah yes, the engine. What’s not to like? It features the same block found in Audi’s R8 LMS racecar. With 602 horsepower and 413 pound feet of torque, this baby can really move and sound incredible as it flies past most other cars on the track, or road.
The 2021 Audi R8 Spyder features a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission capable of shifting gears in 120 ms. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 204 mph. If that doesn’t sell you, the engine tone will. Go fire one up to hear it for yourself. You will not want to walk away.
