Don’t look now but the iconic American sports car known as the Corvette is about to celebrate its 70th birthday. Instead of shouting at kids to get off its lawn, the Corvette is actually adapting to the times. That’s because, for the first time ever, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is getting a spark of electrification. That’s right, the new Corvette E-Ray is a hybrid sports car.

It is also all-wheel-drive and capable of speeding from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 2.5 seconds. Old school Vette enthusiasts don’t need to panic though, the electric propulsion system of the E-Ray works hand-in-hand with Chevy’s 6.2L LT2 Small Block V8 engine. 

This baby purrs and can definitely still growl. The V8 engine is naturally aspirated. Along with the e-propulsion system, the motors combine to make this the fastest production Corvette in history. The E-Ray can blast through the quarter-mile in only 10.5 seconds, right off the lot.

It makes sense because Chevrolet is combining the instantaneous torque responsiveness available from electric motors along with the legendary performance of the 6.2L LT2 V8. The V8 engine is still mounted behind the cockpit in the Corvette E-Ray. Meanwhile, the electric motor is mounted in the front of the chassis, right on the front axle.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

Power output is definitely on par in the E-Ray. The V8 produces 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque on its own. Then, the e-motor adds 160 more hp with an additional 125 pound-feet of torque. 

That means the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray produces a total of 655 hp with 595 pound-feet of torque. Nasty. Combined with the intelligent AWD system, the 2024 Corvette E-Ray promises a very confident and exhilarating driving experience.

There is even a Stealth Mode on the E-Ray, which is an electric-only driving setting you can activate. You can quietly travel the city streets or your local neighborhood up to 45 mph in Stealth Mode. Of course, you should beware, the combustion engine will automatically roar to life if you exceed 45 mph.

The Corvette E-Ray actually features a wider body than the Stingray. It is 3.6 inches wider than the Stingray body. This low, wide stance provides a beneficial center of gravity for high performance driving in the E-Ray.

Running on fumes? No problem. The E-Ray features a standard Active Fuel Management system which essentially enables you to switch the V8 engine to operate with only four of its cylinders if you need to save on fuel.

Other highlights include five-spoke wheels exclusive to the E-Ray, an exclusive body-length stripe package in Electric Blue, and available black exhaust tips. The E-Ray will also feature an Artemis Dipped interior exclusive to 2024 Corvette models. This provides a deep green tone on nearly every surface of the interior, without overpowering the custom interior color package you specify when placing your order.

Available as a removable roof coupe or a hardtop convertible, the Corvette E-Ray will go on sale at some point in 2023. The MSRP for the 1LZ coupe is $104,295 and the MSRP for the 1LZ Convertible is $111, 295. Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first to hit the streets in a 2024 E-Ray Vette.
