The Adidas Archive

The classic Adidas 3-stripe design has long been a hallmark of sporty prestige.  Just ask celebrity fans like the fleet-footed Lionel Messi, or motor-mouthed members of Run DMC (who even wrote a song about their favorite footwear).  Believe it or not, this brand has been serving up killer kicks since 1949, and the iconic, enduring, 3-stripe design was registered almost immediately.

The company, started by a sporting goods manufacturer in Germany, originally shopped sneakers to the army, but it wasn’t long before consumer models appeared.  Over the decades, the quintessential sports shoe brand has gone through plenty of designs and caught the eye of sporting legends, entertainment icons, and plenty of average Joes along the way.  The history of this company is captured in colorful photography in The Adidas Archive, a must-read for aficionados.
