Audi A6 e-tron Concept

Audi is electrifying the sporty luxury car experience with their all-new Sportback concept car. Some of the highlights include a fast charging feature and a total range of over 430 miles. They are building the Audi A6 e-tron Concept on their all-new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) chassis design.

Just don’t call it a revolution, Audi is tagging this movement as their “e-volution” towards electric mobility. This 4-door fully electric sedan is everything you expect from the A6 and more but it does not have a lot in common with the petrol version. The e-tron version shares the same dimensions as the A6 and that’s about it.

From a styling perspective, the Audi e-tron A6 offers a glimpse into the crystal ball when it comes to automotive design. It combines the kind of aggressive lines a sports luxury car deserves without sacrificing elegance.

There will be different configurations available from Audi once production begins at some point in 2022. Early details suggest the most powerful version will achieve a 0 to 62 miles per hour time under 4 seconds.

As if the fastback design doesn’t give it away, Audi clearly spent time in the wind tunnel fine-tuning the aerodynamics of the exterior design. The result is an EV luxury car with minimal aerodynamic drag therefore maximizing efficiency and overall range.

Stylish 22-inch rims round out the exterior presence of the A6 EV concept, putting it all together in classic four-ring fashion. They put the finishing touch in the form of an exclusive Heliosilver paint featuring a unique three-dimensional visual depth effect.

What you may not see with the naked eye is the paint’s ability to reduce overall energy consumption. It does this by reflecting some of the sunlight’s thermal radiation. One of the benefits of this technology is reducing the temperature inside the cabin on a hot sunny day.

Since using the air conditioning to maintain a comfortable cabin increases the energy consumption rate in an EV, this paint is another way Audi is changing the game. Efficient LED and OLED lighting provide plenty of visibility inside and around the A6 e-tron.

At the time of the press release, the two e-motors responsible for power in the A6 e-tron put 350 kW to the wheels. They also produce 800 Newton meters of torque. Audi uses a five-link axle in the front of the A6 e-tron and a multi-link axle in the rear. Air suspension with adaptive dampers keep the ride smooth mile after mile.

Best of all, Audi is inching EV charge time closer and closer to the average time it takes to refuel a petrol car. Audi estimates 10 minutes of charging at a public DC fast charger will yield 186 miles of range. Not bad at all.

For many Audi enthusiasts, the future of the A6 lineup cannot begin soon enough. Keep an eye out for more news on the Audi A6 e-tron Concept in the future. You probably will not need a time machine to see them on the road soon.
