If you love big engines in roadsters and if you happen to have an extra five million dollars laying around, you might want to grab a Bugatti W16 Mistral while you still can. Sadly, this car marks the end of the famous Bugatti W16 engine’s production. This is a very special engine and it is only fitting for Bugatti to give it a send-off in spectacular fashion.
Unfortunately, there is one catch. Every W16 Mistral roadster Bugatti planned for production is already spoken for. This super roadster is sold out so if you want one, you will have to wait until somebody decides to sell their Mistral.
Slated to be one of the fastest open-air vehicles ever made, the W16 Mistral features a nice blend of classic and contemporary Bugatti styling. This includes features such as the classic Bugatti grille surrounded by the kind of automotive design that Bruce Wayne would likely approve of. Maybe it is not the Batmobile but it certainly could be with its almost gothic presence and extreme performance.
As of now, Bugatti only plans on making a total of 99 Mistral roadsters and again, they are all accounted for. That is impressive because the price tag is out of the range of many interested parties and the Mistral is not even going to be ready for delivery until 2024.
So, what does five million dollars buy you in performance terms? A lot of ponies for starters. Right out of the box the W16 Mistral produces a whopping 1,578 horsepower pumping out of a quadruple-turbocharged 8.0L 16-cylinder engine. The engine is called the W16 because the engineers designed the 16-cylinder to feature a W shape rather than a traditional V.
This engine produces 1,180 pound-feet of torque delivered through an all-wheel drive system capable of handling this much power while helping you maintain control of the car. A seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission helps you get all that power to the wheels in an optimal torque band.
As a two-seater, the Bugatti W16 Mistral delivers classic roadster open-air driving with a legion of horsepower at your disposal. Bugatti has not published official acceleration or top speed times. Many industry insiders anticipate a 0 to 60 miles per hour time of under 2.5 seconds while being capable of reaching a top speed of over 254 mph.
