On a recent snowy cabin trip, I realized something about snow boots: Laces suck. Yes, for that alpine mountaineering climb, you’re going to want your tactical, super-secure lace-up boots. But for your everyday comings and goings in snowy weather, stopping and stooping at the front door to lace up and/or unlace your books cuts into valuable snowball fight time. Something like the Danner Cloud Caps is what you want.
They’re made by Danner, a brand synonymous with quality-made boots, and they went with top-notch materials throughout. The outsoles are Vibram’s “Arctic Grip” with the kind of knobby tread that keeps you upright on ice. The insulation is Primaloft Gold for unfailing warmth, and waterproofing comes from the Danner Dry barrier that keeps water out, but lets vapor (your sweat) escape. Up at the top is a simple drawstring closure, which means you’ll be booted up and out the door while those poor souls with lace up boots are still fumbling.
