Twenty-four hour shifts, 3AM calls — if anyone knows about the true power of coffee, it’s a firefighter. Fire Department Coffee was founded by two firefighter/paramedics, and every batch of beans is roasted in Illinois by a team of firefighters, first responders (and a few coffee experts thrown in for good measure). With their Spirit Infused Coffee, Fire Department Coffee is taking those beans to a new level.
Starting with green, unroasted coffee beans, the spirit of choice (bourbon, Irish Whiskey, rum, tequila, and so on) is infused into the beans and then roasted. The alcohol roasts off, but the flavors and aromas stay in the beans, to be released as you grind and brew your morning joe, your afternoon java, or in the case of firefighters, your midnight mud.
If the sweet, sweet smell of bourbon mingling with coffee isn’t enough of a reason to order up a bag or two (they also offer subscriptions) consider the fact that they have their own Fire Dept. Coffee Foundation that uses ten percent of net proceeds to support first responders who’ve been injured on the job.
