GFC V2 Platform Camper

If the goal is to camp more often, in more places, and in more varieties of weather, a roof-top tent makes perfect sense. But if you want to do all that in a hyper-utilitarian, boulder-tough, US-made product, this is what you want. The GFC V2 Platform Camper is a camper shell truck cap and pop-up tent in one. It’s designed to stay atop your truck even when you’re not camping, allowing for cargo space below and a 500-pound carrying capacity (when the tent’s closed) so you can still haul what needs hauling without taking down the camper.

When you are camping, you’ll get up into the four-season pop tent through the secret door in the floor, leading to a mattress that sleeps two adults (plus a dog or small kid if you got ‘em). The tent fabric is a burly waterproof ripstop nylon with zip-open screened windows that let in the views.

Down below, removable aluminum panels open from the sides and the rear to grant access to your gear and it even locks up tight from the inside so you can sleep in the topper knowing your stuff is safe.

It’s available in two sizes, one for small-to-midsize trucks and one for full-sized trucks, running just under $7k and just under $7.5k, respectively. Considering the no-compromise build that puts durability front and center, the truly versatile utility, and the fact that this will make you camp more than you ever thought possible, it’s going to be money well-spent.
