Whoever said age is just a number never tasted the Glengoyne White Oak 24 Year Old. I recently tried the White Oak range, and the 24’s added years up its adaptability far beyond the less-aged, though still terrific, core expression. The palate goes from soft and treated with dried and candied fruit, to an exciting but unintimidating mix of green apple, chocolate, spices, and a touch of citrus that isn’t inundatingly tropical. This profile goes down beautifully with water or neat (thanks to that toasted yet zesty nose), with rocks, or even in a cocktail. The varied sweetness makes a unique old fashioned, while the combination of dark and milk chocolate levels up an Irish coffee.
The 24 diversifies Glengoyne’s sherry-forward portfolio while maintaining its mindfully unrushed approach to distillation. It’s actually aged exclusively in Virgin and American oak. That unbeatably lengthy malt whiskey process truly distinguishes the criminally underrated Glengoyne, along with the distillery’s unique location just north of the Highland-Lowland border.
