Lotus Theory 1 Concept

Lotus has been delivering impressive-looking, race-ready vehicles since founder Colin Chapman began work on the brand’s very first race car in his garage around 1948. Fast forward 76 years and we’re blessed with the 986 horsepower supercar that is the brand’s latest racing concept — the Theory 1. Lotus revealed earlier this week that the Theory 1 Concept “embodies the future of intelligent performance vehicles” thanks to a combination of digital, natural, and analog design cues that together will deliver an intuitive, connected and performance-driven experience.

Powering the Theory 1 will be an all-wheel-drive drivetrain with a 70kWh battery that is estimated by the brand to provide a range of 250 miles when traveling conservatively, and 986 hp with a top speed of at 199 mph when driven more liberally.

Additional features include an adaptive robotic textile material throughout the vehicle that enables the car to communicate with the driver and passengers and offer a more intuitive in-car experience. This will be accomplished in part via inflatable pods on the seats and the steering wheel that will “react in real time to offer more support, grip, and subtle prompts via personalized haptic feedback.” If Lotus indeed plans to go all-electric by 2028, and we can’t think of a better way to get there than with the Theory 1 Concept.
