Why a packable backpack? Say you go on vacation, bringing the usual suitcase or duffel bag to hold your stuff. After you land at the hotel, it’s time to head back out to see this place you’ve travelled to. If you’d like to bring something more than what fits in your pockets, but think you might look a little odd dragging a roller bag through the local esplanade, a packable backpack is the answer. And the In & Out from Mystery Ranch is a very capable answer at that.
If you don’t know Mystery Ranch yet, the Montana-born company makes some serious no-nonsense packs for fire teams, military personnel, hunters, mountaineers, and regular people too. This pack is tough enough to act as a take-along on a mountaineering trip, keeping your stuff protected as you journey deep into the wilderness and far from basecamp. But it also does that hotel thing we mentioned.
With 22 liters of capacity, it’s a little bigger than their original In & Out so you can go longer distances. A storm flap keeps out the weather while the drawstring cinch-top opening allows for easy access. And straps? Contoured shoulder straps, a load-distributing sternum strap, and compression straps make sure the pack is properly wrangled.
Room for a hydration bladder, water bottle side pockets, and two outside zippered pockets give you lots of carry options. The whole thing is made from Cordura mini-ripstop so it can handle tough backcountry treks as well as a vacation city exploration.
