Royal House

If you’re in the market for a new home, your search can end now. Built on a lot that’s a little over a half acre in the woods above Portland, Oregon, this brand new, architect-designed stunner is currently for sale and frankly amazing. The Portland-based architecture and interior design firm William/Kaven are responsible for this four bedroom home and are calling it Royal Residence — both to highlight the palatial presence of the cantilevered home, but also to denote the name of the street the house is built on, Royal Boulevard.

The bedrooms all face east, so you wake to the glory of the morning sun streaming through the trees (and the floor to ceiling windows). Facing south to let in daylight, the kitchen and living room are open-concept modern rooms with white oak floors, walnut inlay borders and handmade kitchen cabinetry.

Royal House

Full-wall sliding doors open off the living area and bedrooms to let the sound and character of the forest in. Feel free to wander out to the balconies for dinner or to savor an evening cocktail amongst the trees. In winter, a huge fireplace adds any ambiance that supreme views of a snow-covered forest may have missed.

While it all feels like you’re part of the forest itself, the house is actually just ten minutes from downtown — or to put it in PDX terms, just a 55 minute bike ride to the original Voodoo Doughnuts. Surrounded by the hiking trails of Forest Park, this 4,000 square-foot home is just waiting for the right person (with $2.55 million) to make it theirs.
