In 1969, Swiss luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer introduced a watch in honor of the Monaco Grand Prix. Revolutionary for being the first square-cased, water-resistant automatic (Rolex introduced the square chronograph in 1940), the Monaco represented a complete break from conventional watch design. A few years after its release, the “King of Cool” Steve McQueen chose to wear the Monaco in the classic racing film, Le Mans and the watch was cemented in history.
Celebrating the Monaco Grand Prix, Tag Heuer has released the Monaco Special Edition. Featuring a 39mm black Grand 2 titanium case that’s been coated in diamond-like carbon (DLC), and a black circular brush dial, the hour hand, minute hand and indexes are plated in a rose gold. Water resistant up to 100 meters, the calibre Heuer 02 offers a significant 80-hour power reserve, while a soft and durable black alligator strap oozes pure luxury.
