The fourth release in Wild Turkey’s Master’s Keep series has arrived, and it’s changing things up just a bit from previous releases. Namely: this is a rye. Before now, all Master’s Keep releases have been bourbons. There was the 86.6 barrel proof Master’s Keep 17 Year from 2015, the rare barrel Decades from 2017, and sherry cask-finished Revival from 2018 — all three handpicked by Wild Turkey’s master distiller, Eddie Russel, and all three Kentucky straight bourbon whiskies.
With Master’s Keep Cornerstone Rye, Wild Turkey is celebrating the fact that they’re one of the few distilleries who crafted rye whiskey before Prohibition and continued distilling it through to today. The blend comes from barrels of rye aged nine and eleven years and marks the oldest rye Wild Turkey Distilling Co has ever released.
It’s bottled at 109 proof and has flavors of warm vanilla up front, honeyed middle notes and a bold spicy finish, just as a rye should have. Only 16,000 bottles will be produced, and each one will run you $175.
