Overlanding is nothing new but it’s no surprise to see an uptick in its popularity. Now, even mainstream automotive industry giants are getting in on the fun, a prime example is the GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Off-Road Concept. Who says you can’t mix business with a little pleasure?

Even in the base model, the GMC Canyon AT4 is a capable off-roader, but these modifications show the kind of overlanding ability it really has by taking it to the next level. In a time when so many spend hours and hours in front of their screens, spending time reconnecting with nature and the outdoors is gaining more momentum.

The key to getting more out of your downtime is to ensure you are well-equipped for your escapades, time and time again. For many off-road and overlanding enthusiasts, having the ability to go wherever the spirit of adventure leads them is the only way.

That’s why GMC equips this Canyon with a factory-lifted, wide off-road chassis featuring enhanced underbody coverage. This includes off-road rocker panel protectors. More ground clearance plus protection from protruding rocks or terrain? That’s a win-win.

Cast-iron control arms provide a stronger and more durable component. There is also a heavy-duty front bumper with a winch. Should you find yourself in a pickle, the integrated front recovery points will help bail you out.

There are also front and rear locking differentials, a must-have luxury for off-roading and overlanding. GMC even equips the Canyon OVRLANDX Concept with wheel flares featuring integrated task lamps.

Multimatic DSSV dampers provide a very smooth riding experience, even when transitioning from a rougher terrain, back to pavement, and then back off-road again. Should you need to use the spare tire, it’s back there on a convenient swivel in case you need to move it out of the way to access the truck’s bed.

GMC even equips the OVRLANDX Off-Road Concept with guy lines on each side to protect the windshield from those pesky branches. Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.6L V6 engine. The 8-speed automatic transmission will take the next few shifts from here.

Considering the 27.7 degree approach angle capability, you might find a few ways to put these 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires to the test. GMC even equips the OVRLANDX Concept with a snorkel, enabling you to go fording in water up to 32.1 inches deep.

The list of additional features is worth checking out for any off-road enthusiasts. Whether it inspires your next build or makes you dream of owning this Concept if GMC puts it into production, you will see a Professional Grade example with this Canyon AT4.
