For many enthusiasts, the announcement of the all-new Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is just confirmation that dreams are back in style. In a posterizing effort, the prestigious Italian automaker brings back a legend and it is definitely better than ever.
This version isn’t just aiming to be as iconic as the original, it also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Countach’s existence. There is no denying it, the Countach defines cool. In fact, it is one of the only models in Lamborghini’s existence that is not named after a breed of bulls.
Instead, the word Countach is an expression of surprising amazement, the exact feeling you capture when sitting behind the wheel. It is also the expression of nearly every gawker as you drive by. After all, the Countach is a rolling poster.
Lamborghini knows how to lead the way which is why their decision to make the brand new Countach into a hybrid hyper-performance machine just makes sense. Powered by a combination of a 6.5L V12 engine with a 48-volt electric motor on the gearbox, this Countach delivers an impressive 814 CV of power. That translates to right around 802 horsepower.
Countach purists will appreciate that approximately 769 of those horses are galloping from the V12 engine. Once you hit the pedal to the metal, this Italian beauty can reach a top speed of just over 220 miles per hour.
To keep it as light as possible, Lamborghini uses a lot of carbon fiber throughout the architecture of the car. How light? The modern Countach features a dry weight of only 1,595 kilograms or 3,516 pounds.
You will have as much grip as you desire to throw this Countach around corners thanks to Lamborghini’s advanced all-wheel drive system. There is even a rear-wheel steering system for additional handling mischief. This is, by far, the best handling factory Countach of all time.
If you want the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 in your collection, you better not slow down, Speed Racer. Lamborghini is limiting production to only 112 units. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Maybe you will be able to get your hands on a poster of the new Countach at that point. Call it a hunch but it’s doubtful your significant other allows you to hang it in the living room.
On the bright side, this means you can tell people about the new Countach in your garage. This also happens to be the perfect place to keep a refrigerator full of your favorite brews. It’s a win-win.
