Timex x Todd Snyder MS1 Maritime Watch

Need a new watch? Need a highly stylish watch that calls to mind secret agent style and sporty, throwback looks? Then you need the new Timex x Todd Snyder MS1 Maritime Watch, the latest design to come out of lauded American menswear designer Todd Snyder’s very fruitful and always-evolving partnership with classic American watch brand Timex. Worn on the runway in the designer’s well-received New York Fashion Week: Men’s FW18 runway show, (which featured beautiful outerwear, throwback tailoring and new Champion sportswear), this watch is your newest wish list addition.

It continues Snyder’s work with Timex, yet does so in a new and revamped way. Past iterations of the partnership have taken archival styles from the Timex collection and upgraded them for the modern era, from the speedy Timex x Todd Snyder Blackjack Watch to the much-loved Timex x Todd Snyder Mod Watch. In this instance, the MS1 Maritime Watch is the first entirely new design to come out of the partnership — it “started from scratch,” as Snyder said before his latest runway show. The design is “authentic,” according to Snyder, and calls to mind classic watches that the likes of James Bond might have worn (the striped NATO strap ties in with that aesthetic quite nicely), with a few crucial modern design moves.

“It’s a bit more contemporary (and) sporty,” Snyder noted. Available in an all-black case with a rotating bezel featuring white markings — or up for grabs in a silver case, white dial iteration — the MS1 Maritime Sport Watch is “meant for any occasion”, Snyder says. The larger case features domed crystal and Timex’s INDIGLO light-up technology, which Snyder calls the coolest part about the watch. The versatility of the NATO strap means you can wear it with high-low style combos — think faded denim, a herringbone blazer and a striped henley — and looks that are purely sporty & weekend-ready (a classic crewneck sweater, olive chinos and brown leather sneakers). It’s an ideal beach watch, too — we can see this one working with tailored swim trunks and an easygoing polo on summer weekends aplenty.

At $158, it’s also an affordable steal that offers the ability to pair with other interchangeable watch straps in your arsenal — giving you plenty of bang for your buck. Lest you think this watch is only wearable in the warmer months, note that the cool texture of the NATO strap adds some welcome visual interest to cold-weather style combos, too. The MS1 Maritime Watch is also a study in patience. It took about 18 months to develop — happening in tandem with Snyder’s other Timex watch collaborations and collection designs — but the end result surely seems worth the wait. And the new touches that came out of the longer design effort included welcome upgrades like a new case, a new bezel and a new movement. The bottom line is that the MS1 Maritime Watch surely belongs in your watch collection, even if you’ve got a bevy of other watches from the Timex x Todd Snyder partnership. As for us? We simply can’t wait to see where the partnership between a classic American watch brand and a generation-defining designer goes. – Buy It
